If you have stains on your glass shower door as a result of hard water, you’re going to want to check out this video.  The team at Habitat for Humanity ReStore was kind enough to provide a shower door sample to demonstrate this easy fix:

So what is hard water anyway?  Essentially, it’s when the water that comes into your house has a high mineral content.  It’s created when deposits of minerals like limestone, chalk or gypsum–which are made up of calcium and magnesium carbonates, bicarbonates and sulfates–are present in your plumbing.

If you have severe hard water issues in your home, you may want to consider installing a water softener.  Water softeners can range from small units that connect to your sink’s water supply to the whole-house variety that can address the issue on a larger scale.

Here’s our Fix It in 15:00 remedy for how to clean glass shower doors with hard water stains:

  • Purchase a shower door cleaner like Brite and Clean
  • Wet the door with a light coating of water
  • Sprinkle the Brite and Clean powder on a plastic scrubbing pad or microfiber cleaning towel
  • Wipe the glass on both sides in a circular motion
  • Take a wet rag and continue wiping both sides of the glass in the same circular motion

What’s great about this solution is you can do it as often as you like since it’s so easy to do!
