On the Road with Habitat for Humanity & Carrier OTR005
— from episode #005

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project seeks to provide those less fortunate with the ability to own a home of their own, while learning some vital skills along the way. To tackle a project like this it truly takes an army of people.  Not to mention, the materials that go into the mechanical elements of each home.  Central air conditioning could be deemed a luxury, so the decision to include high efficiency Carrier AC units was a no-brainer, especially in light of the value they add, and the quality of life benefits they provide. One unique aspect of the effort was the decision to include a group of net zero homes as part of the community.  Using a combination of innovative materials and equipment, such as solar panels and geothermal heating and cooling systems, these homes are designed to produce as much energy as they consume.  In addition to this project, there are a number of other initiatives in the area to help military veterans and folks aging-in-place gain access to air conditioning that was unattainable previously.
